This year one of my goals is to push my self creatively and to take more time to document moments in my own family. Along with my Year of Saturdays, I have joined up with a group of wonderful photographers for a 10 on 10 project. Each month on the 10th we will be sharing 10 photographs that give a glimpse into a day in our lives. This first 10 on 10 for me started with a pink sunrise. I thought that was the perfect start to a glimpse of my daughter♥
I hope you’ll follow the chain to Sarah Costa and see what my group has been up to so far this month.
A new year brings with it a fresh perspective, a clean slate and is the time of year when people want to better themselves and try something new. What better time to explore your gifts and talents that you might not even know you possess. My beautifully talented friend Jeanne is offering a brand new e-course that I think is just perfect for this.
I am so excited to be a part of this course! I will be there talking about my creative journey and learning alongside everyone else. If there is one thing you do for yourself in the quest for a better you this year, I think this course should be it.
The spell was broken. My uncle learned to laugh, and I learned to cry. The secret garden is always open now. Open, and awake, and alive. If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden.
When I first began blogging back in 2008 I was bursting with things to say, ideas to share and no trouble coming up with content for my little spot on the web. I was on the cusp my first business with small children that easily went with the flow of my schedule and allowed me ample time to be creative. As the years went on, my business grew, my children grew, a new business was born and the words dried up.
It isn’t a lack of things to say, just a lack of energy and will to say them. I have been in a blogging funk. Witty commentary and intriguing insight have eluded me and my blog has been silent of my voice. Sure I still blog the odd client session or random something but my heart has not been in it. I miss it. I miss sharing my heart and soul with my fellow bloggers and blog readers. Getting feedback on my journey, sharing things that make me smile, laugh and even sometimes things that make me melancholy and angry. I want to get back to that.
When Susannah Conway’s July newsletter arrived in my inbox last week it came with a flash of light and the inspiration I needed to get back on track.
The August Break. A break from blogging. Now a break from blogging might seem like a strange way to get back into blogging but it feels like exactly the right thing. It isn’t a break from blogging entirely, it is break from the pressure of words. Witty repartay and deep thoughts aren’t necessary this month. Telling a story or just a single thought through a photograph alone is all that is required. To me it feels like a strong cool wind after walking in the stillness of a blazing sun.
I am excited to get started and to get back into the fold of blogging and bloggers that I love. I hope you will join me♥
This time of year can be hard for me and photography. It is bitterly cold and snowy which makes it hard to get out with my camera. I love to find a good creativity challenge during the winter months to keep me shooting and learning and this year I have found a great one. Marta Locklear started this challenge to keep us all thinking of fresh new things to photograph. I am so excited to join in and get my creative juices flowing.
I missed the first few weeks so I am making up for all of them today with just 3 images. Admittedly these are not really the best or most creative I could have come up with but being late to the party and in the middle of wrapping up business and getting Christmas together, I hope you will forgive me. I will do better in the weeks to come;)
